Before we even had house plans for our new home, I (like most women… haha) had a pinterest board. It was filled with bright colors and great neutral pieces were sprinkled throughout. The sofas had to be neutral because they were such an investment I didn’t want to risk getting tired of a bold color. Then in come the pink chairs! I had saved pictures of pink chairs but didn’t think Allen would go for it at all. Well, I lucked out because he pretty much said, as long as furniture is comfortable, the color doesn’t matter to me. YESSSSSSSSS! Back to the sofas… I knew we needed 2 sofas and 2 chairs because there are 5 of us and 2 are growing teen/tween boys! They were (at that point) just starting to take up a lot of room. We worked with Ashley Delapp . This set up that Ashley worked up for us was perfect for our needs and wants.
This was the first plan for our den and we kept everything with the exception of the purple cowhide rug and the table between the 2 chairs. The cowhide rug was so fun but we needed something cozier/warmer. This is our family room and where we have movie nights, games of charades and where friends and family gather, so it needed more of a standard rug. The kids are constantly sitting on the floor and the cowhide just wasn’t comfortable.
As for paint colors, we went with neutral colors for the main rooms i the house. There are so many different grays and whites that I was definitely glad that I had Ashley pick… or else I still might be trying to make a decision! I’m a Ennegram 9, which makes me very indecisive 😉.

Our family is a “blanket family”. Someone mentioned a couple weeks back when my 2 cousins were here plus my sister and her twins. We all sat down to watch a movie and every single on of us beelined for a blanket. Apparently not everyone does this… who knew?!?
Our family’s favorite throws:
I have since switched out the blanket basket. I moved this one to playroom and I got this one for the same spot.

It’s also a great room to decorate during the holidays. For Christmas this past year I enlisted the help of Ashley at Pagoda Designs to help me with all of the fresh greenery and bows that I had my heart set on.
We decided on a combo of hot pink and red for our ribbon and decor. It worked perfectly with my chairs, don’t you think? I like to match my holiday decorations to my home. For example my bedroom is more neutral with softer colors so for Christmas I used whites, light pink, silver and gold.
The greenery not only drapes beautifully, it smells amazing when you enter the room.
They have the best selection of gorgeous ribbon to chose from. We picked a silk velvet for the inside of the house.
Ashley’s beautiful garland with my favorite magnolia, cedar and fraser fir.
For Halloween I added some black bats to the fireplace. It was so fun and made a great impact when you walked in the room. I swapped out the flowers on the coffee table for dried black cattails from my local craft store and BOOM. Slightly spooky Halloween decor was done for this room.
